The MAPA Great Famine Project
Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University
The MAPA Great Famine project offers an online atlas of web maps and analytical tools that provide researchers and the general public with resources to analyze various factors that influenced famine outcomes. The project uses data provided by a group of Ukrainian and US demographers, including on population statistics, ethnic composition, the administrative division of Ukraine in the 1920s and 1930s, ecological zoning, levels of collectivization of agriculture, grain procurement plans, and data on the fulfillment of those plans. Notably, the atlas allows users to formulate new questions and to stimulate new research on the history of the Holodomor. The project is an initiative of the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University.
